Child Services
Child Services is a key department in our organization.
It is responsible for sponsor engagement and class enrollment with their child. See below for a brief explanation and some helpful tips for child letters.
Class Enrollment:
Each spring we enroll new students to start the school program. In some cases we replace students that are not able to continue.
Each month a roll-call is done to determine if any children have discontinued due to a few unfortunate causes (relocating, health).
Each year before school begins the class lists are validated and clothing/book stipends are hand delivered to each student.
Child updates including graduation to the next grade are made in our system available to the sponsors on our web.
Sponsor Engagement:
New sponsorships are provide with a welcome packet about each child sponsored.
Updates on children such as pictures (semi-annually sent) and profile updates (on our site) are scheduled at regular intervals.
The best way to get updates is to send a note to your child. Our Media team in Haiti has a schedule for driving to each school to deliver letters and get responses back.
Gifts to children and classes are allowed with a $20 limit. Each month these are delivered and a response sent back to the sponsor.
Helpful Letter Tips:
You can send letters and pictures into our office.
@ PO box 1460 Fitchburg MA 01420.
Our preferred method is online, which gets a quicker response.
Many of the children are shy about a relationship with someone in a different country. They will open up as correspondence continues. To help this process you might want to include something personal about your family and ask questions that are more specific.
A question like “What is something you like to do when you get home, your favorite subject, what makes you happy, what is your favorite celebration” will get a better response that “How are you”?
Please allow 30 days for your letter to be translated, provided to our Haiti staff, a visit arranged and the response to be translated and delivered back to you.
