Stories from our High School

Kerlando, Fritzlande, and Yvenelson

Kerlando Joseph

“Good afternoon! My name is Kerlando Joseph. Yvenelson is my little brother and Fritzlande Loius is my cousin. I’m 19 years old. I’m in 12th grade and I love singing and making music. I want to be an electrician when I grow up. I can’t find words to express my gratitude towards you. I have been in school with Haiti Empowered since PK3 and I am now in the Trade School. I am learning tiling and would like to learn English. I pray that you would have a nice day!”

Fritzlande Loius

“Hello! My name is Fritzlande Louis. I’m in 11th grade. I have been with Haiti Empowered since starting school in PK3. I live with my aunt and two cousins, Yvenelson and Kerlando. My stepdad takes us to school on his motorcycle; he is a fisherman. Now that I’m in the Trade School, I’m learning sewing which helps me take care of myself. One of my biggest dreams is to be a pediatrician so I will be able to help my community with our children’s health issues.”

Yvenelson Joseph

“Hello! My name is Yvenelson Joseph. I’m in 10th grade. I have been in school since PK3 and Fritzlande is my cousin. I live with my aunt and my cousin in L’acul. My mother died when I was 9 years old and my father passed away when I was 13. I’ve been living with my aunt for two years now. She is a merchant and sells tablets. At times I help her to sell them after school. I want to be a doctor when I grow up because then when my housemates are sick I can care for them.”
