Stories from L’acul
As you may know, Haiti Empowered Schools recently held their first-ever Scholastics Meet—and L’acul took home the Championship on May 9! After weeks of close competition, L’acul edged out Fouchè in the final days and the entire village celebrated the big win with a joyful community party.
We spoke with one of our teachers, Mikelda Beliziare, who credited their success to dedication and teamwork. “We loved the competition and had a determination to win,” she said. Mikelda praised fellow teacher, David, who stayed late after school, shared extra study materials, and even visited parents to ensure support at home. Students formed study groups, often gathering at each other’s homes to prepare—even after daily chores.
Staff and directors also went above and beyond, sometimes using their own money to provide food and drinks for the students to keep spirits and energy high.
“We made a lot of sacrifices to make our dreams come true,” Mikelda said. “We’re so thankful for the opportunity and can’t wait for the next competition!”
