Sandro’s Story: From Fear to Hope

At just 17 years old, Sandro has endured more hardship than most of us could imagine.

After losing his father at a young age, Sandro was raised by his single mother who did everything she could to provide for her children. Despite their struggles, the family pressed forward with courage. The first six years after their father passed was difficult but the community they lived in was peaceful. Until recently... life in Haiti has become increasingly dangerous.

Gangs began to terrorize their community in Port-au-Prince. One night in August 2023, gunshots shattered the silence as attackers invaded their neighborhood and home. Sandro, his mother, and siblings fled into the night with nothing but the clothes on their backs. When they returned, their home was reduced to ashes. Everything they owned was gone.

From that night on, Sandro and his family lived in constant fear, moving from place to place as violence followed them. At times, they didn’t know where their next meal would come from or if they would even survive until morning. School became impossible, and the future seemed hopeless. They were homeless and had no idea where to go.

But God was not finished with Sandro’s story...

When they arrived in Léogâne, Haiti Empowered welcomed Sandro in. For the first time in months, he had a safe place to stay, regular meals, and the opportunity to return to school. Today, he is filled with renewed hope and dreams of becoming a good citizen who can one day make a difference in his community.

“I want to thank Haiti Empowered for giving me this opportunity,” Sandro says.

Sandro’s testimony is a powerful reminder of why our mission matters—why every meal, every class, every safe place provided transforms lives.
