Investing in the Teachers who Invest in our Children
Before our students returned to school, our teachers became students themselves.
From August 31 through September 2, Haiti Empowered held three days of professional development for teachers and school directors. The training focused on leadership, classroom management, effective lesson presentation, and practical teaching methods, including hands-on workshops for creating educational materials.
These annual training days help teachers grow in confidence, skill, and effectiveness so they can better prepare the students in their classrooms.
We focused on three major themes:
Leadership in the context of the teacher’s work
Classroom management and how teachers can present an effective lesson
Subject-area teaching methods, including workshops on preparing teaching materials
The training also included daily devotion and spiritual encouragement. One message centered on Matthew 5:13 — “You are the salt of the earth.” Teachers were challenged to consider the influence they have not only in their classrooms, but also in their communities, through integrity, leadership, and the example they set for others.
When we invest in teachers, that investment reaches every child they teach.
