If I Were President of Haiti by Widnel Petit Frere

If I were President of Haiti and faced with the current crisis in our country, my first priority would be to restore security. Without security, it is impossible to develop the economy, strengthen education, or maintain political stability. Safety is the foundation upon which all other progress depends.

To address insecurity, I would strengthen public safety institutions, especially the Haitian National Police. This would include providing additional resources, improved training, and stronger operational support. At the same time, I would work to combat the illegal circulation of weapons and gradually regain control of areas currently dominated by gangs. Respect for the law must be restored, and the rights and dignity of every citizen must be protected.

However, security alone is not enough. Many young people lack employment opportunities, and unemployment contributes to instability. As president, I would create job programs specifically designed for youth. Providing meaningful work would not only reduce poverty but also give young people hope and a positive role in rebuilding the nation.

In addition, I would invest in public services and national infrastructure. Hospitals must be strengthened so that citizens have access to proper medical care. Roads, highways, and bridges must be constructed or repaired to improve transportation and commerce. A stable commercial system that supports both imports and exports would help grow the national economy.

Finally, I would promote tourism. Despite its current challenges, Haiti is a country rich in natural beauty and historic landmarks, such as the Citadelle Laferrière and Labadie. Developing safe and attractive tourist sites would create jobs and generate revenue for the country.

In conclusion, restoring security, creating jobs, strengthening public services, and developing tourism are essential steps toward building a stable and prosperous Haiti. With strong leadership and unity among the people, our country can move toward a better future.
